114--CALIFORNIA REDWOODS
Once widespread over the northern hemisphere the
giant redwoods, Sequoia Sempervirens now only
survive in a narrow coastal belt reaching from
southwest Oregon to Big Sur, south of Monterey.
They grow in dense forests with a lush under
growth of ferns, bracken and, in season, a profu-
sion of wild flowers.

“Wednesday-San Fran by
noon today
We were really impressed with
these (trees). They are building new roads
which will ruin
the feeling of the
trees but are keeping some of the old road
as a scenic drive M&B”
